The small village of Rüterberg is a special place because GDR history was made here. The disgruntled citizens defied the GDR's border policy and proclaimed Rüterberg a village republic in 1989.

The Low German writer, teacher and folk artist Johannes Gillhoff was born in Glaisin in 1861. In the Johannes-Gillhoff-Stuv, the life and work of the author, who became known through his epistolary novel "Jürnjakob Swehn der Amerikafahrer", is documented in a permanent exhibition.
Near the old castle, on a western branch of the Elde, Duke Adolf Friedrich I had a new castle built for Neustadt-Glewe in 1618/19. In the future, this was to serve as a secondary residence for the dukes of Mecklenburg in place of the castle.
Near Wöbbelin, on the road to Ludwigslust, a concentration camp was established during World War II. The subcamp of Neuengamme concentration camp existed for only ten weeks, from February 12 to May 2, 1945.

On August 27, 1813, the poet Carl Theodor Körner, who fought as a volunteer of the Lützow Free Corps against Napoleon and lost his life in the process, was buried in Wöbbelin. The memorial commemorates the life of the famous writer and patriot.
The family-run business of Iris and Norbert Leithold revives the centuries-old papier-mâché tradition of Ludwigslust. In 2013, they founded the Ludwigsluster Papiermaché-Manufaktur ("Ludwigslust Papier-Mâché Manufactory") in Bulow Palace, a magnificent royal seat. In workshops, guests can try out the old art of making papier-mâché themselves.
The park-like Parchim ramparts are a garden and archaeological monument worth seeing. Covering an area of 4.4 hectares, they enclose the northeastern side of Parchim's old town and run along the former medieval town fortifications. While walking through the gardens, visitors also learn about Parchim's eventful history.

The Banzkow church is a neo-Gothic church from the 19th centuryt and home of the Banzkow seated Madonna.
The Louisen Mausoleum, which Duke Friedrich Franz I had built for Duchess Luise, who died in 1808, is located in Ludwigslust Palace Park. The neoclassical building was erected between 1809 and 1810. In addition to Duchess Luise, eight other members of the ducal family are buried there.
In the style of a medieval castle ruin, an artificial grotto was built in the Ludwigslust castle park in 1788. This still serves as a romantic backdrop on various occasions.
Since 1991, the small village of Rüterberg, located on the eastern bank of the Elbe River, has been allowed to officially bear the epithet "Village Republic". A local history room in the village informs visitors about how the village republic was founded and what it meant for the inhabitants to live on and with the inner-German border.
In Grabow's old town, on an island between the Elde River and the millrace, there is a collection of clinker brick buildings - the former Bolbrüggesche Mill. It is one of the largest mill complexes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is always worth a visit for technology enthusiasts as an architectural monument.

In the middle of the forest, about five kilometers northeast of the town of Grabow, on the Müritz-Elde waterway is the Hechtsforthschleuse. This lock was retired years ago and is now only used for residential purposes.
In 1851, the water mill in Neu Kaliß was built and served the economy of the small village on the Elde River for over a century. It was shut down in 1992. Today it supplies the community with electricity as a hydroelectric power plant.
When the two entrepreneurs Felix Schöller and Theodor Bausch came to Neu Kaliß in 1871, they already had ambitious plans. They wanted to reform the paper mill, which was already producing high-quality writing paper at that time. A modern paper mill was to be built on the banks of the New Elde River.
Probably the most imposing building in Ludwigsluster Kanalstraße is No. 26. This building was erected by court architect Georg Friedrich Groß in 1829/30 for the so-called "Lehrerseminar".
