Parks and Gardens, Castles and Manors

In 1847, the Swiss architect Meuron built the enormous mansion in the style of English Tudor Gothic for the Hamburg merchant Jenisch. The courtyard front is 3-story and the park side in the middle part even 4-story. A left side wing was added later. A large double-sided chimney and an imposing wooden staircase have been preserved from the time of construction. A large Lenne park stretches to the Varchentin Lake. A mausoleum is located in the park.

Through marriage, the estate passed to the Counts Grote in 1875, who remained the owners until 1945. A landscape park, designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, belongs to the castle. The mausoleum of the Grote family, built in 1895 in the neo-Renaissance style, is also located in the park.

Visits are possible only from the outside, unrenovated.
