Mecklenburg Lake District

Land of 1,000 Lakes

More than 1,000 lakes - including Germany's largest lake, the Müritz - come together in the Mecklenburg Lake District to form a veritable El Dorado for water sports fans - whether paddling, vacationing on a houseboat or sailing.

More than 1,000 lakes - including Germany's largest lake, the Müritz - come together in the Mecklenburg Lake District to form a veritable El Dorado for water sports fans - whether paddling, vacationing on a houseboat or sailing.

Here you are always on the water. After all, the area is Europe's largest closed lake district. A body of water glistens behind practically every hill and every forest. The more than 1,000 lakes and the rivers connecting them invite you to go on excursions by boat or raft. The scenery of such an adventure is as varied as it is impressive, the landscape lush and nature protected. Of course, this is especially true of the "Müritz National Park" and the nature parks "Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide" and "Feldberger Seenlandschaft". Between the unspoilt nature lie dreamy villages and winding small towns, charming manor houses and enchanted castles - a popular destination for excursions for those interested in culture.

And when was the last time you had a good look at the stars? No light pollution clouds the view of the seemingly endless night sky above the Mecklenburg Lake District, which invites you to take an extended "swim" in the glowing sea of stars, especially in autumn and winter.

Malchow
As a climatic health resort, the island town of Malchow offers the perfect environment for spa holidaymakers and nature lovers. Situated between Lake Müritz and Lake Plauer See, the way to the water is never far here. For children, a summer toboggan run and the monkey forest provide varied entertainment.

Neustrelitz
The residential town of Neustrelitz is a baroque showpiece with a star-shaped town layout. Even today, numerous buildings and the Neustrelitz Palace Park are reminders of the town's splendid past. The town of Mirow is best known for the castle of the same name, where British Queen Sophie Charlotte grew up in the 18th century. But Mirow has a lot to offer not only for those interested in culture: Surrounded by dense forests and a glittering lake landscape, hikers, nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts will find a breathtaking landscape here for fantastic excursions on and off the water.

Neubrandenburg
