In the Prerow stream, the kayaks are launched in the water hiking rest area of the Baltic resort Prerow. Along reed-covered shores, the route goes in the direction of the Bodstedter Bodden. At the Schmidtbülten, the current flows into the Bodden, which is crisscrossed by shallow reed islands. The vastness of the landscape has a calming effect; nowhere can the eye make out an end to the alternating green and blue.

Within sight of the Bodden shore, the route leads to the port of Wieck and from there through the Koppelstrom further in the direction of Born. With a bit of luck, you might spot a sea eagle here. Across the dreamy mirror world of the Saaler Bodden you reach the quiet harbor of Neuendorf. An ideal place for camping.

With the church of the Baltic resort Wustrow always in view, you cross the Saaler Bodden to Hohen Ort near Barnstorf. From here it is only a stone's throw to the artists' colony of Ahrenshoop.

The next morning, the kayak is launched into the Baltic Sea at the western beach. The trip along the west beach is impressive. The wind blows so hard that whole sections of the beach are torn into the sea and the trees duck away. Not far away, the Darßer Ort lighthouse points the way to the new land. The bypass of Darßer Ort - the core zone of the national park - is very demanding and should not be undertaken alone, because current and wind play their game with the waves. After about 9 km you reach Prerow Bay, where the water is shallow and peaceful again.

Water profile

Adventurous but demanding waters. Overnight stays are only allowed on official waterway resting places. When the wind blows, there are often strong waves and strong currents. It is better to stay close to the shore. It is essential to observe the navigation regulations in the national park. Paddlers should be practiced in re-entry techniques and partner rescue. 2 transfer stations.
