In its small exhibition series "Treasures from the Depot", the City Museum is showing
From March 18, the city museum will be showing a selection of objects relating to the history of Güstrow Kniesenack beer, which has been brewed in the former royal seat since the 16th century and was prized beyond the city limits, as part of its small exhibition series "Treasures from the Depot". The exhibition was developed together with the Original Güstrow Kniesenack e.V. association, which is working to revive the historic beer variety.
The reason for the cooperation between the city museum and the association is a new acquisition. In 1624, a song of praise was written about Kniesenack beer, which was reprinted in 1706 as "ENCONIUM oder Lob=Spruch des weitberühmten, gesunden, kräftigen und wohlschmeckenden Gersten=Biers Kniesenack genannt" with annotations by the former court physician Georg Detharding. The Kniesenack Association was able to locate a copy of this rare print in Switzerland that had not yet been cut open. Together with the Kunst- und Altertumsverein Güstrow e.V., Fielmann AG's museum sponsorship department acquired the print for Güstrow and presented it to the town museum as a further donation. Fielmann AG is thus continuing its cooperation with the town museum.
The donation and the small Kniesenack exhibition will be presented to the public on March 18 at 3 p.m. as part of the "Treasures from the Depot" series of events organized by the Kunst- und Altertumsverein together with the Original Güstrow Kniesenack e.V. association. Objects from the depot of the Güstrow City Museum, from the collections of the Kniesenack Association and another copy of the hymn from the holdings of the Historical Library will be on display. Interested parties are very welcome! Please register by telephone on 03843-681023.
