At the center of the story is Karl-Georg Ammer, in his mid-thirties, with a doctorate in literature and editor at a renowned publishing house. He wants to remove a text he finds uncomfortable from his ideal world with a polished expert opinion.

A perfect world? Behind his typewriter, all alone out there in the house... he has no idea of what is happening at the same time in his parents-in-law's apartment, he knows nothing about what is going on in the distant convalescent home for overworked teachers.r overworked teachers, does he not see the desperate efforts of the soldiers with the red star on the sodden embankment of the nearby river... Did he not pay attention in physics when it came to the force of inertia...?

With the narrator looking over his shoulder, all the threads of Karl's little tragedy are brought together in the face of the rising floods all around in the spring of 1989.

In his musical reading, the author and songwriter Paul Bartsch, who lives in Halle (Saale) and has a doctorate in German studies and literature, combines the read passages in an entertaining way with his own songs, which lend the theme a further poetic dimension.
