Art break during Bach Week with Dr. Birte Frenssen
In 1820, Caspar David Friedrich received a visit from the Russian Tsar and his State Councillor Vasily Zhukovsky in his Dresden studio. Ten years later, he created four paintings that can only be seen by lamplight. In the instructions sent to St. Petersburg, which were in no way inferior to those of a Swedish furniture store today, Friedrich described the apparatus that was to effectively demonstrate the path from worldly to heavenly music. And to appeal to all the senses, he also imagined the whole thing accompanied by music! With Caspar David Friedrich through the year 2024 - we are there!
