Inspired by Martin Amis' novel, director Jonathan Glazer conveys the banality of evil and the horror of the Holocaust in 'The Zone of Interest' (2023) impressively and with a sharp eye, without showing it explicitly. Glazer (see also 'Under the Skin' and 'The Fall') was inspired for this film by the book of the same name by the late author Martin Amis. His film sheds light on the horrors of the Holocaust from the perspective of Rudolf and Hedwig Höß, the commandant of Auschwitz and his family, who lead an extremely privileged life in their storybook home wall to wall with the extermination camp. Rudolf Höß is portrayed by Christian Friedel (from 'Das weiße Band', 'Elser - Er hätte die Welt veräädertndert'), Sandra Hüller ('Anatomy of a Case', 'Toni Erdmann') shines in the role of Höß' wife Hedwig. The production design is by Chris Oddy ('Under the Skin'), the cinematographer was the multiple award-winning DOP Lukasz Zal ('Ida', 'Cold War'). The film was shot in Poland and is nominated for five categories at the 96th Academy Awards in Los Angeles in March 2024. The film can hope to win an Oscar not only in the main category 'Best Film', but also in the categories 'Best Sound' and 'Best International Film'. Glazer has also been nominated in both the 'Best Director' and 'Best Adapted Screenplay' categories.
