Ludwigsluster Classic
Festival prizewinner and audience favorite Stephen Waarts returns to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this summer as part of the "Ludwigsluster Klassik" series, which is always dedicated to lesser-known musical treasures. For when the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin resided in Ludwigslust from 1767, a rich musical life developed here, the traces of which the festival series takes up.
With the Concerto in A major for violin and orchestra by Johann Michael Haydn, the charismatic violinist performs a work by this brother of Joseph Hadyn together with the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin, the third oldest orchestra in Germany.
The orchestra also has a piece by the Mecklenburg composer Johann Christian Hertel on the program - a rarely performed work from the 18th century. The orchestral pieces by Georg Anton Benda and Antonio Rosetti also date from this period. Incidentally, Rosetti spent the last three years of his life working as a Kapellmeister in Ludwigslust - as the successor to Carl August Friedrich Westenholtz, whose music was the subject of the "Ludwigsluster Klassik" festival last summer.
