The opening summer at the MEERESMUSEUM starts on July 17. New exhibitions and the first aquariums invite visitors to get to know the modernized museum in Stralsund's old town.
Four exhibition areas illustrate evolution, interactions between humans and the sea, the diversity of the underwater world and strategies for sustainable fishing. Old acquaintances, such as the model of the leatherback turtle "Marlene", the impressive fin whale skeleton in the choir of the Katharinenhalle and the original reef pillar from the Red Sea bring back memories of a previous visit. Modern bands of display cases stretch like gentle waves over two floors and impressive replicas of sharks, dolphins, a Bryde's whale and the whale shark float in the openings between the exhibition levels.
The start of the opening summer will be accompanied by musical entertainment. During the tour, museum educators will share their knowledge about the lifestyles of sea creatures and extraordinary exhibits with you.
Gastronomic offers can be found on the north courtyard, in front of the entrance to the MEERESMUSEUM. During the opening summer, there is a 50 percent discount on the regular admission price. Further information about the visit can be found here: deutsches-meeresmuseum.de/meeresmuseum.
Accessible access to the completely renovated aquarium cellar is expected to be possible from October 2024.
