Contemporary panel painting on the imagery of sounds by and with Christian Kabuß meets historical animal painting by Heinrich Sperling, presented by Peter Stüdemann.

This year, an exhibition on the imagery of music accompanies the traditional Johann Heinrich von Thünen International Summer Festival at the Bürgerhaus Gottin. The interdisciplinary search for bridges of free expression between the world of sound and the workspace of painting has occupied the Altkalen painter Christian Kabuß since his student days at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. The Gottin exhibition shows panel paintings with a clear musical reference to songs, melodies and musical figures, for example, and finds traces and echoes of these in other areas of his work.
Christian Kabuß will be on site for KunstOffen and will introduce you to this special aspect of his work. The musical exhibition also includes Kabuß' "Gegenstücke", subtle studies of the folk song "Herrn Pasturn sien Kauh". This builds a bridge to the second Gottin offering, because who would have thought that the most important German animal painter came from Warnkenhagen! He was the son of Pastor Sperling, who named him Heinrich Johann after his famous godfather Johann Heinrich von Thünen.
Peter Stüdemann, a genealogist from Lissow, has been researching and collecting about this Heinrich Sperling (1844-1924), who was very successful and became a professor and court painter to the German Emperor in Berlin, for many years. For KunstOffen he provides a documentary overview of the life and work of this fascinating painter. This exhibition also provides information about his son Claus Sperling, also a painter and later a theologian of the Confessing Church. There is an opportunity for personal discussions.
