Every year on the last weekend in August, Greifswald celebrates its famous son Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) and invites visitors on a journey back in time to historical Romanticism. The city's cultural institutions open their doors free of charge and provide insights into the life and work of the romantic painter.
