as part of the CDF 2024 salon series
At the time, art was understood to mean not only all of the arts, but also the visual arts. One of the most important literary-theoretical works that ignited enthusiasm for painting was the anonymous Herzensergießungen eines kunstliebenden Klosterbruders (The Heartfelt Inspirations of an Art-Loving Monk), published at the end of 1796. It was written by Wilhelm Heinrich Wackenroder and his childhood friend Ludwig Tieck. Together with Tieck, he shaped the Romantic conception of art by attributing a quasi-religious character to painting and music. Great artists were placed in the proximity of saints and the ecstatic reception of art was stylized as a worship service. Prof. Dr. Jochen A. Bär from the University of Vechta will provide fascinating insights into the art-theoretical essays of Wilhelm Heinrich Wackenroder and Ludwig Tieck on this evening in the Marienkapelle of St. Mary's Church. The salon will take place in the Marienkapelle. Admission is free. Registration at: https://www.eventbrite.de/e/857024301757?aff=oddtdtcreator
