as part of "Caspar David Friedrich - Cinematic Dialogues", in cooperation with the Casablanca Film Club
After a wedding has been celebrated at an upper-class residence where pretty much everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, a small group of people there experience the end of the world, triggered by the planet "Melancholia" hurtling towards Earth. Whether this film, ominously set to the music of Richard Wagner, actually tells the story of the apocalypse, is a coded critique of capitalism or perhaps "only" describes the crises of women just over 40, remains to be seen. What is certain is that Lars von Trier has once again proven himself to be one of Europe's most innovative and headstrong directors. "An artfully enigmatic reflection on death, which only gains a certain tenderness from the view of the characters with the apocalyptic twist." (film-dienst) Admission: 3,- €
