Lecture by Fred Ruchhöft (Goldberg Nature Museum)

Most of the towns in Mecklenburg were founded in the late 12th and 13th centuries. Some, such as Plau am See, were connected to a Slavic castle center, others developed as new economic centers and finally some, such as Lübz, emerged as stragglers in front of castles. However, it took decades for the towns to develop the appearance we associate with them today. The first church was made of wood, instead of a wall there were ditches and palisades, the houses made of wood and clay were loosely lined up along the streets... But this is also part of the town's history: most towns celebrate a false anniversary, because most of them are older than we generally believe.

On Friday, March 21, Dr. Fred Ruchhöft from the Natur-Museum Goldberg will give an insight into the beginnings of our cities, as archaeological research in recent years together with a look at the historical similarities of all cities make it possible in the first place. The lecture at the Karower Meiler Nature Park Center begins at 7 pm.
