Stasi Records Archive Schwerin and Grenzhus Schlagsdorf - New event format "Guest at the Grenzhus" with Daniela Münkel
During the 40 years of division, West Germany and West Berlin were particularly intensive espionage targets for the Stasi. To gather information, the Stasi recruited German citizens to spy for the GDR secret police. It also trained spies in the GDR and then smuggled them into West Germany.
In the first event of "Zu Gast im Grenzhus" on Friday, May 23, Daniela Münkel, Head of Research at the Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive, will deal with the topic of "The Stasi in the West". The discussion will not only focus on the activities of the Stasi in the West, such as espionage against well-known West German politicians or other secret service activities, but also on how the topic is embedded in the history of espionage during the Cold War and how the knowledge gained through research is dealt with today.
"Zu Gast im Grenzhus" is a new, open event format that also actively involves the audience. It combines an interest in the personal development of historians and the results of their research.
