Sonority / Coexistence
SONORITY is a musical project that combines left-field pop, electronica and contemporary avant-garde with jazz influences. The live performances are accompanied by live visuals by Tapani Toivanen and offer an immersive audiovisual experience. The artist, Sulkunen, processes and manipulates her voice to create a mixture of ambient dream state and electronic sounds. The music is characterized by influences such as the experimental ambient music of Tim Hecker and the ascetic minimalism of Pauline Oliveros and Morton Feldman. The album "Coexistence" will be released in May 2024 and represents the third part of the Sonority trilogy. Each album in the trilogy deals with different thematic facets of the voice and explores the profound questions of life. "KOAN" (2018) deals with the human voice and phonetics, "TERRA" (2021) explores our relationship with the earth and "COEXISTENCE" (2024) examines the nature of sound. SONORITY's music combines field recordings, electronic manipulations and vocal utterances to weave social narratives.
