Off we go to Scotland in the 1930s. Here, in the Highlands, young Dougie Cunningham is growing up. He wants to follow in the footsteps of his beloved grandfather, a piper in the legendary Scots Guards, the Scottish Guards within the British Army. He spends a lot of time learning to play the Highland bagpipes - until he falls madly in love. But he eventually loses his Caitlin when her parents emigrate with her to faraway Canada. Dougie goes to war with the Scots Guards.
Whether the story ends well in the end is almost beside the point, as the show lives above all from its music. Amplified by the archaic sound of the bagpipes and catchy drum rhythms, the professional musicians and singers of the Higland Saga Band fire out one classic after another.
