Discovery tour: reindeer lichens, the noble horsetail or the brown fritillary - there is also plenty to discover in the fall. A rarity and star of the Black Mountains is the golden-haired aster. In the south-easternmost part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it is still rare and delights not only plant connoisseurs in late summer.
The Black Mountains are also a popular excursion and hiking destination. Sandy dry grasslands are home to many rare animal and plant species. Former military installations, which were once used by the NVA for training purposes, are now the winter quarters of the pug bat, among others.
Centuries of grazing ultimately led to the development of this semi-open cultural landscape. Nutrient-poor, sandy and warm soils are a prerequisite for the enormous diversity of species.
The late summer hike leads right across the area and at the same time reveals a magnificent view over the Randow valley at the highest points.
Insect allergy sufferers can only take part if they bring an allergy emergency kit!
The hike takes place in all weathers.
Meeting point - geographical data see link!
The meeting point is approx. 2.7 km west of Wartin and 2.7 km south of Grünz in the 90° bend of the Förstereiweg directly on the border between Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The village can be reached, for example, from the A11 or from Schmölln/Grünz via Plattenweg or from Wartin via Förstereiweg. There is a parking area in front of the information board about the Black Mountains and the crossing. This is also where the excursion starts.
