Ballet by Ralf Dörnen Music by Michio Woirgardt Commissioned by the Theater Vorpommern

As the power-obsessed king of the city of Uruk, Gilgamesh incurs the wrath of the people. The gods send the powerful beast-man Enkidu to earth to resist Gilgamesh's superior strength. After a difficult battle, which neither of them wins, the opponents realize that they are only whole together. A close bond develops between the nature man Enkidu and Gilgamesh. But then Enkidu dies. Enkidu's death transforms Gilgamesh into a seeker of meaning who makes a pilgrimage to the ancient sage Utnapishtim to discover the secret of eternal life.
