First the nuns of the Ribnitz monastery from the order of St. Clare ran a farm. Centuries later, recreation seekers recognized the special climate of water, wind and forest. They lived with the farmhands and had themselves catered for there. The desire for more amenities grew and "town houses" now changed the face of the "place by the sea".
