over 100 artists show their prints - open Mon - Fri 12 - 5 pm
A print for Caspar David Friedrich - artists from all over Germany responded to the call from the Office for Education, Culture and Sport to send their very personal birthday greetings for Caspar David Friedrich to Greifswald in the anniversary year. On the occasion of the Day of Printmaking, four galleries in Greifswald will open exhibitions of the competition "Prints for Caspar David Friedrich" on March 14 and 16. The Wolfgang Koeppen Literature Center, St. Spiritus, the KunstLADEN of the Pommerschen Künstlerbund e.V. in Feldstraße and the Kleine Rathausgalerie will be presenting prints made using classic printing techniques such as etching, woodcut, linocut and screen printing. Many of the works take up motifs from Friedrich's pictorial oeuvre and transform them into our present day. They do not omit current topics such as the war in Ukraine. One etching plate was created directly in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. Recurring themes in the exhibition sections are nature, mountain landscapes and images of the sea in their relationship to people. Numerous other artistic positions are presented, including still lifes, figurative paintings, non-representational works and works of visual poetry. A jury selected five prize winners from the more than 200 entries submitted in advance. Visitors can also vote for their favorite until March 30. The artist who receives the most votes will be awarded an audience prize on April 12 at the Koeppenhaus.
