A concert that unites musicians from Schwerin and the USA
On Friday, August 9 at 7 p.m., a chamber concert entitled "Ludwigslust 1824" will be performed in the Catholic Church of St. Helena and Andreas at Ludwigslust Castle. It presents a program as it might have been performed by the chapel of the court of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in Ludwigslust 200 years ago. The focus is on songs by the singer, pianist, glass harmonica player and composer Sophie Westenholz. She shaped musical life at the Ludwigslust court for over four decades. Arias and flute quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini and Franz Vinzenz Krommer will also be performed. The latter was one of the Bohemian musicians who played an important role in Ludwigslust.
The concert brings together musicians from Schwerin and the USA: mezzo-soprano Sophia Maeno has already presented songs by Sophie Westenholz on NDR and recently enjoyed success as Carmen in Chemnitz and Schwerin and as Amneris in Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf. Helena Weinstock-Montag is a flautist in the Staatskapelle Schwerin. Californian violinist Susan Doering and cellist Dieter Wulfhorst studied with the Guarneri Quartet and play in various Californian orchestras. Reinhard Wulfhorst, viola, rediscovers unjustly forgotten works of the Mecklenburg music tradition with his Schwerin-based music publisher Edition Massonneau.
Between the musical pieces, contemporary word contributions bring musical life at the Ludwigslust court to life.
