Anna Steinkogler and Valentin Butt do not see the combination of their instruments harp and accordion as a contradiction in terms, but rather as a pair of opposites, as a surprising, exciting combination through which they express and bring to life the previously unheard and unheard-of.
Because opposites mean vitality. There is no life without contrasts, friction, in short: without ambivalence. Life IS an oxymoron. Anna Steinkogler and Valentin Butt draw their strength and inspiration from the confrontation with the contradictions of their (musical) existence, from the desire to change perspectives. As OXYMORON, they stand for mediating between extremes, staging them or merging them into something new and thus paving the way for new listening habits.
The focus of their arrangements is not imitation, but the creation of colors, friction and tension and the opening up of fresh perspectives on the familiar.
In their own compositions, DUO OXYMORON explore their individual aesthetics and embark on a search for the sound language of their unusual combination of harp and accordion, for which there are neither role models nor role descriptions. The duo's unconventional sound is based on a great love of freedom, the desire to experiment and the merging of different styles. The differences between their personalities and instruments are united in a dialog that both artists are convinced is necessary for reconciliation.
