Rolf Barkhorn Reinschiff on the concrete cruiser 18 long months as a shore sailor in the People's Navy
What exactly is a feudel? How are sailors woken up in the morning and who has to greet whom, when and why? These questions were not only on the minds of those who served on the ships of the People's Navy (the naval forces of the GDR). There were also sailors and officers serving in the navy on land.
In his autobiographical book, author Rolf Barkhorn describes in an entertaining way how he experienced his basic military service in the People's Navy from the first day of enlistment, the types of people he met, how the training went and what else was important for everyday life on the "concrete cruiser", but was actually also quite pointless.
After "Rübergemacht, aber andersrum" and "Röhrentod & Bandsalat", "Reinschiff auf dem Betonkreuzer" is now the author's third book, in which he mainly describes his own experiences. "That's enough with the navel-gazing. After that, I'll move on to other books, maybe next time it will be a thriller. Or maybe a children's book," says the author, hinting that he still has plenty of imagination and material for more books.
