On May 14, 2024, the Friedland composer Emilie Mayer would have been 212 years old. To mark the occasion, the Emilie Mayer Gesellschaft e.V. is organizing a birthday concert at GM Kunstraum Pleetz on 11 May 2024. Ulrike Brandt and Reinhard Gagel will play Mayer's cello sonata in B minor and their own pieces in a relaxed salon atmosphere. Matilde Frateggiani Bianchi sings three songs by the composer. Gitta Martens will read from her novel "Das Tagebuch der Emilie Mayer, Componistin". As part of a preview, we will be showing the graduation film by three students from the Hanover Film Academy about Emilie Mayer, most of which was made last year on the occasion of Mayerei 24 in Friedland.
Emilie Mayer (1812-1883) was born in Friedland on May 14, 1812. She left her hometown at the age of 28 to study composition in Stettin. Her 1st symphony was premiered there in 1847. After completing her studies, she moved to Berlin and became the first professional composer in history. Highly praised by critics and celebrated by the public, she was one of the most important personalities in 19th century musical life. Despite this, she was quickly forgotten after her death, but in recent years her works have once again been conquering concert stages from Szczecin to Munich and Mexico City. The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra also has works by the composer in its repertoire.
The Emilie Mayer Gesellschaft e.V. was founded in Friedland in 2022. It has set itself the task of making the composer's life and work better known. It also sees itself as a promoter of the regional art and culture scene.
This event is free of charge.
