Lecture & Science, Naturally Romantic

as part of the lecture series "Talking about Friedrich"

Prof. Dr. Gregor Wedekind (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz) will give a lecture as part of the lecture series "Talking about Friedrich". Wedekind will focus in particular on the aspects of aesthetics and ecology. In the works of Caspar David Friedrich, a new understanding of the relationship between man and the environment is developed. Nature as seen landscape and thus as aesthetically perceived nature does not necessarily amount to the depiction of beautiful landscapes, but reveals resistant forces that point to a disturbance in the relationship between man and nature. The lecture examines Caspar David Friedrich's paintings from this point of view and aims to show the extent to which ecology - understood as an awareness of the interactions between culture and nature or the complexity of human-nature relationships - is modeled through aesthetic concepts. Respondent: Prof. Dr. Annika Schlitte "With Caspar David Friedrich through the year 2024 - We are part of it!"
