The Open Monument Day, which is celebrated throughout Germany, will take place on September 8 this year. Under the patronage of the Federal President, the current motto is: Wahr.Zeichen. Witnesses of history.
The Hanseatic City of Stralsund is taking part in this event with both public and private monuments, as it is rich in the most diverse testimonies to history. Over the course of the day, Stralsund residents and their guests can experience and take a closer look at very different monuments under expert guidance.
The objects range from the town hall and St. John's Monastery to an industrial villa, the naval museum and a gabled house that serves as a family home. The citizens' committee "Rettet die Altstadt Stralsund e.V.", the Jugendbauhütte Stralsund of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Thormeier restoration workshop will also contribute to the success of the Monument Day with their own contributions.
