Monuments and Sights

North of the village of Silmenitz is the mound grave "Himmel" overgrown with gnarled oaks.

This impressive mound, about 6-8 m high, is most likely a Bronze Age burial mound. Only an excavation could remove the doubts whether a large stone grave from the Funnel Beaker Culture or a Slavic burial is hidden under the mound. Overgrown with gnarled oaks, the popularly known "sky" of Silmenitz is always a popular romantic photo or drawing motif. The circumference of this burial mound is still about 80 m at the foot.
