A trip to Mecklenburg about 100 years ago: Classroom, living room, kitchen, bakery, barber shop and blacksmith's shop vividly convey life in "grandma's and grandpa's times". Original utensils invite visitors to touch and try out.
Immediately behind the entrance door, visitors find themselves in a classroom from the 1940s. Wooden benches, inkwells, slate boards with styluses, old satchels and calculators show how students learned to read, write and do arithmetic back then. A small natural history museum is set up in the adjoining room. Display cases with prepared birds, eggs, butterflies, forest dwellers and much more provide information about the local flora and fauna.
You can also browse through old chests, uniforms, cameras, wedding china, emergency money from the First World War, photos, typefaces and typewriters.
A signboard in the form of an iron pretzel points the way to an old Crivitz bakery. Right next door, the hoods, razor sharpeners, curling irons, straightening irons and other items from a hairdressing salon catch the eye. One is particularly proud of the bathtub from the 1920s, dubbed the "first wellness bathtub with runners". The scene in the attic is almost homely. Under wooden beams are a cozy living room with kitchen, nostalgic doll carriages, a shoemaker's workshop and countless household appliances such as a preserver, cherry pitter, iron or washing drum. Many of the objects that have found their place here are still in working order and can be borrowed for home use by appointment.
Old agricultural machinery and firefighting equipment are on display in the museum's outdoor area. The centerpieces are a wooden plow from 1742, a tilt plow from 1937 as well as an extension ladder and a fire engine of the fire department from 1911 and 1920, respectively. The ladder worked by hand crank, the hand-operated fire engine moved forward as a horse-drawn vehicle.
Once a year in June, the local history museum celebrates the "Day of the Museum". The summer festival invites to music, social program, food and drink.
The Heimatstube can be visited after registration in the community center under Tel. 03863 555983 Monday to Thursday from 8.00 to 14.30. Friday and Saturday the visit is possible after arrangement with Mr. Edmund Richter under Tel. 0172 3135393. Individual guided tours with Mr. Richter are also possible according to availability (also for (pre-)school classes).
