Built at the beginning of the 18th century in the classicist style for the von Hahn family, the castle is now used as a hotel.

The Karow Castle was built at the beginning of the 18th century in the style of classicism. The von Hahn family, who have belonged to the Mecklenburg nobility since the Middle Ages, commissioned the main part of the house. In 1899, the Berlin merchant Johannes Schlutius took over the Karow estate and combined it with his Alt Schwerin estate. In 1903-1906, an annex was added to the older, classicist main part. Karow Castle is a building that combines 2 architectural styles that are almost 200 years apart. This combination is unique in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 1916 Wilhelm (Georg Johannes) Wandschneider built the mausoleum of the landowner family Johannes Schlutius (partially destroyed) in the nearby forest and this was built in the style of Theoderic tomb in Ravenna. During World War II, Rostock high school students found shelter in the Karow castle. After 1945 the castle was a refugee camp. Property of more than 100 ha was expropriated at that time in the course of land reform, so that the Schlutius family also lost their property. Since 1999, the Karow Castle has been owned by the Heuer family. After 8 years of extensive renovation and restoration, the castle has been used as a hotel since 2007. Double rooms, apartments and suites are available for prospective vacationers or guests. The wedding suite offers a stately ambience, the castle and the castle park are ideal for weddings and family celebrations. The individual charm of the rooms will make your stay in our house unforgettable. This flair is achieved by furnishing the entire house with antiques. If you like, these can also be purchased as souvenirs. The restaurant Roter Salon with its comfortable chairs invites you to spend cozy evenings. Or spend the evening in a small group in the rustic vaulted cellar. Monthly concerts take place in the neobaroken ballroom.
