In the care of the Michael Succow Foundation, the Goor Forest, which is developing into a "primeval forest", is finding its way back to itself and invites hikers to get involved with the rhythm of nature. Take the time to look closely at how nature develops without human intervention. Feel the full experience of nature with all your senses. Smell the scent of the forest, listen to the sound of the sea and watch the wind in the mighty treetops.

Old beech trees line the shore of the Bodden and form the entrance to the "Path of Leisure and Knowledge". This path, which is a good 4 km long, lets you dive deep into the forest at 19 stations and grants you unique views of Rügen's Bodden and the Island of Vilm on the first section. Here where the waves can act with full force, the coast seems wild. The landscape can develop as naturally as the forces of nature allow. Broken branches and trees that have fallen into the sea remain in place. Like at the station of the water oaks. They are a special place of power that strengthens for the next section of the hike.

The path now leads into the forest with its stately beeches, oaks, bird cherries and mountain maples. In spring, the ground is covered by a sea of anemones. The oldest giant tree is the umbrella oak with its strong branches. Enjoy the peace that the old tree radiates, take a breath and forget about time. On the way back, burial mounds and bogs along the way tell their own stories.

The 19 stations are marked by boulders with engraved numbers. They refer to explanatory information in an accompanying brochure. The brochure, illustrated with watercolors, is available for a nominal fee at the Hotel Badehaus Goor, among other places. Atmospheric texts and poems invite you to enjoy nature, feel good and reflect.
The certified landscape ecologist Steffi Deickert will be happy to guide you through the Goor Forest, on the Path of Leisure & Knowledge (www.natur-beruehrt.de), by appointment and agreement.
