Bus connection: Prerow
The hiking trail leads directly through the rustic Darß forest. Past quiet alder swamps, huge anthills and gnarled beech trees. And again and again the earth rises and falls beneath your feet, forested mountains and valleys alternate. Over thousands of years, storms and surf have piled up meter-high dunes here with their thunderous force. Suddenly, the deep green canopy opens up and the silence of the forest gives way to the sound of the sea. The brick-red lighthouse at the secluded Darßer Ort already announces the nearby Baltic Sea. Those who climb the 134 steps and 35 meters of altitude above the treetops enjoy a bird's eye view. The view sweeps over the impetuous sea and sparkling beach lakes, over blooming dunes and the ancient forest. The undulating structure of this breathtaking landscape is clearly visible. The Natureum at the foot of the lighthouse provides information about the eventful history of the Darß and a small café invites you to take a break.
Continue along the beach and over a wooden boardwalk through the unique dune landscape. On the way you will pass the Ottosee, the Fukareksee and the Libbertsee. Viewing platforms provide beautiful views of the idyllic beach lakes and, with luck, sea eagles can be observed here. The rose bushes along the dune trail are particularly tasty for deer. Hikers are offered a unique spectacle when the kings of the forest graze in the dunes in front of the Baltic Sea.
Arrived at the emergency harbor Darßer Ort, the small idyllic anchorage is crossed via a footbridge. Directly behind it, the dunes open up a wide view of the Baltic Sea. For the beach walk back to Prerow, the flushing beach close to the water is best suited. The damp sand makes for easy walking and invites you to collect shells and other flotsam.
