as part of the CDF 2024 salon series
Socializing and exchanging ideas with others are part of personality development. It was primarily women who lived this ideal of Romanticism in their salons, not only in Berlin and Jena, but also on the Island of Rügen. From the beginning of the 19th century, Charlotte von Kathen invited lords of the manor, pastors and scholars from Berlin, Greifswald and the Island of Rügen to her manor house in Götemitz. She had a lifelong, deep friendship with some of her guests, such as Friedrich Schleiermacher and Ernst-Moritz Arndt. Tryntje Larkens invites you on a short excursion into the heyday of salons on Rügen and gives an insight into the story of Charlotte von Kathen, mother of nine and lady of the manor, who made the small town of Götemitz on Rügen a "cultural hotspot" of her time.
