"Kaskade, course for new music" at the Libnow manor house
Dear music lovers,
Many people are familiar with the phenomenon:
They hear new sounds, but often have the feeling that they are listening to a foreign language that they do not understand.
In contrast to works of abstract painting, which are presented in public spaces today as a matter of course, New Music is still often met with a lack of understanding.
Yet some of what is called New is already more than a hundred years old.
The Berlin composer and pianist Andreas F. Staffel will take you on a journey through the beginning of New Music history and explain key works at the grand piano or with numerous historical audio examples. The First World War was a major turning point and had a major impact on the work of composers of the time. This is exemplified by Bela Bartok's Suite op. 14 (1916) and Paul Hindemith's Suite 1922. The latter heralds the golden twenties with fashionable dances such as ragtime and shimmy. Jazz-oriented classical music by the Jewish composer Erwin Schulhoff will also be played.
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to talk to the composer about the listening experience.
Last but not least: Photographs by Claudia Otto and paintings by Günther Hornig will be on display for the last time.
