Development and operating company Müritzflugplatz Rechlin-Lärz GmbH
The airfield, which was used during the Second World War as "Erprobungsstelle Rechlin und der Flugplatz Lärz" (Rechlin and Lärz Airfield Testing Station) and where new military aircraft were tested during this time, does not lie fallow today.
After 48 years of Soviet use, including accommodation for soldiers and their families, the Lärz airfield was reopened for civilian use in 1994. In the process, large parts of the former infrastructure were demolished.
The northern part of the site was purchased on April 30, 2003 by the association Kulturkosmos Müritzsee e.V., which organizes the annual Fusion Festival there. The twelve shelters located on the site are used as event venues for this purpose.
The much larger remaining part of the airfield was acquired by the consortium "Müritz Airpark". This company is building a so-called aviation village there, i.e. an area with private homes and its own flight hangars. In addition, a marina and an 18-hole golf course are being built on the site. The runway was completely renovated in 2011, and then the taxiways were asphalted.
Now, among other things, sightseeing flights over the lake plateau are offered.
