World Heritage House The old towns of Stralsund and Wismar have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2002. Both cities represent ideally developed urban complexes from the heyday of the Hanseatic League in the 14th century. The city centers, with their monumental brick churches and representative merchants' houses, have been able to preserve their medieval layout almost unchanged to this day.
Exhibition in the World Heritage House The visitor center not only conveys a vivid impression of the long history of the Hanseatic City of Wismar through the exhibition, but is also itself a testimony to different eras.

Since June 2014, residents and guests have been able to learn about UNESCO and the history of the Hanseatic city at the new World Heritage House. The visitor center is the third of its kind in Germany after Regensburg and Stralsund.
On the first floor, the World Heritage Room marks the start of the tour of the World Heritage House.

On benches surrounding the city wall, visitors can experience the inlay of the city layout on the floor and learn interesting facts with the exhibition content on the walls.
Special thematic rooms with interactive work tables are dedicated to different focal points:
"Citizens Build Their City,
"Houses tell history",
"Rules shape this city",
"Trade brings prosperity" and
"Merchants invent the plank house".
The visual highlight of the exhibition is the restored wallpaper room on the upper floor. 64 square meters of wall space are completely decorated by valuable French paper prints.
The wallpaper cycle depicts the mythological story "Voyage of Telemach to the Island of Calypso." Dating back to 1823, the panoramic wallpaper was designed by artist Xavier Mader.
