An impressive documentary about a young reindeer in the icy north of Lapland, which is accompanied by the camera from birth for a year.
Ailo is a little reindeer. He is born in the far north and experiences the first years of his life. French biologist Guillaume Maidatchevsky observes a small reindeer in northern Lapland from its birth to its first anniversary. The film explores the relationship with its mother and the group dynamics in the herd, depicts life in the harsh icy landscape and captures adventurous encounters with other animals, including wolves, lemmings and a hilariously funny stoat. The "humanizing" protagonists and a sometimes very emotional off-screen commentary bring the documentary closer to fictional realms, but it also works as a fiery plea for more sustainability and climate protection.
