Book presentation with the author Dorina Kasten: "I feel an irresistible urge inside me ..." - Stralsund artists in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Two hundred years ago, talented young people settled in Stralsund or set out from here after their school education to conquer the art world. The Hanseatic city has produced many unique artists who are appreciated far beyond Vorpommern. These include not only the late Romantic artist Simon Wagner (1799-1829), who was supported by Caspar David Friedrich, and the extraordinary Siegfried Korth (1926-1985). Female artists were also successful. Antonie Biel (1830-1880) was the first woman from Stralsund to train as a painter. She was followed decades later by Elisabeth Büchsel (1867-1957) and Katharina Bamberg (1873-1966). Dorina Kasten presents 26 Stralsund artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The book focuses on the lives and work of the energetic, cosmopolitan, fearless or modest people who dedicated themselves to painting.
