St. George's Church in Wismar The largest city church - St. George's announces the self-confidence of a city - and still today.
St. George's Church is one of the largest brick churches in northern and eastern Germany. Destroyed by bombing, the ruins were left to further decay until 1990. St. George's rose to the sky as a ruin, but since 1990 the church has been rebuilt, supported by donations from numerous people throughout the country and the "Wege zur Backsteingotik" initiative of the German Foundation for the Protection of Historical Monuments. On January 25, 1990, a hurricane brought down the gable of the north transept. This event provided the impetus for the reconstruction of the church. In May 2010, the 20th anniversary of the reconstruction of St. George's Church was celebrated.
And already today, the sky is once again closed over St. George's, the tracery-crowned gables look far into the country, and concerts and exhibitions are held inside.
WISMAR FROM ABOVE - with the elevator to the viewing platform
Since May 2014, a viewing platform has been opened on the 35-meter-high tower of the church, which can be reached by elevator. From there, guests can enjoy an impressive view of the city and the surrounding area.
With the viewing platform on St. Georgen, Wismar offers its guests a new and impressive view of the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the harbor. The elevator to the viewing platform can be used daily during opening hours.
Admission to the church is free of charge.

Daily from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm visitors with a negative test / proof of vaccination / doctor's certificate for convalescents can explore the church and the observation deck again under the applicable AHA rules.
