This year, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and its State capital Schwerin are hosting the celebrations for the 34th Day of German Unity. State capital Schwerin is presenting itself as the state capital, and art and culture are important markers. With the exhibition SPIEL:STAND in the Dezernat5 gallery, we would like to presentartistically relevant aspects relating to the Day of German Unity to a wide audience and thus create sensual links to this event.
The title SPIELSTAND suggests an upside and a downside, which, however, do not consist of hardened fronts, but have entered into playful interaction with each other. We suggest looking at the rapprochement between the two parts of Germany on this level.
We would like to understand the processes of rapprochement, as complex as they are, as a playful exploration and mutual interaction, whether decathlon or supreme discipline. Is there actually an internal German score? Is it possible to take stock and end a good season? Do the fans cheer when the game goes into extra time or are the scoreboards already switched off?
We would like to take the opportunity to formulate what drives us as contemporary artists and show independent, self-confident artistic positions in our Schwerin gallery, thus presenting an important aspect of German unity to visitors.
