The first institutional solo exhibition of the American sculptor Nancy Lupo in Germany
With "Princessletthewind", the Kunstverein für Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin presents the first institutional solo exhibition of the American sculptor Nancy Lupo in Germany.
Nancy Lupo's artistic practice is closely linked to our material culture and draws attention to our presence in the midst of everyday materials and spaces. Lupo explores how collective fantasies, emotions, energies and ideologies are anchored in these (infra)structures and objects - elements that can be handed down, often overlooked or completely constructed. In this examination, the artist not only questions social structures and material conditions, but also develops a perspective that reflects on the interactions of affective, material and imaginary practices.
For "Princessletthewind", an installation developed especially for the Kunstverein spaces, Lupo builds on her most recent series of works, which deals with forms of "cruel optimism" - a concept formulated by the American cultural theorist Lauren Berlant.
