Visiting bears and giant trees. At the end of winter, forester Gerald Klamer starts his hike through the last great primeval beech forests of the Carpathians.

Along the way, he repeatedly meets up with locals who show him their native forests and tell him about the dangers they face as activists. Over the course of a thousand kilometers of hiking, Gerald Klamer is both horrified by freshly cleared areas and amazed by ancient tree giants with dense carpets of moss and lichen.
