"Richard Wossidlo" shows a potpourri of dances Folklore dancers from the children's, youth and adult dance groups with orchestra Mecklenburg-Pomeranian folklore ensemble "Richard Wossidlo" Ribnitz-Damgarten
Mecklenburg-Pomeranian Folklore Ensemble - Richard Wossidlo presents a potpourri of dances From young to old, the members of the Ribnitz-Damgarten ensemble will perform dances from their repertoire at the Wismar Theatre on 4 May 2024, bringing local culture to life with colorful traditional costumes and cheerful music. 62 years of the Mecklenburg-Pomeranian folklore ensemble Richard Wossidlo stand for 62 years of tradition, customs and quality. Many customs have fallen into oblivion, and very few families still live the traditions of yesteryear. Not here in the Ensemble, because here we know what the definition already says: tradition is the basis of culture, the roots of every human being. And anyone thinking of dusty customs is mistaken!
Folklore uses dance to tell a story about the life of the ancients, about traditions and the customs of the time, in the style of dance theater. The custom with the Easter water, jumping over the fire on St. John's Eve or the Heischegang are well known here. The background to the dances is told, explained and passed on to the youngest members of the ensemble. However, there are not only dances that tell of traditions, but also those that show how things used to be when working in the fields or hauling in fishing nets. We received our knowledge through the support of many people and we don't just keep these treasures from boxes and chests for ourselves - we pass them on through our performances in now all German landscapes, in Europe and overseas.
People from the villages of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Vorpommern have given us dances and songs that they danced and sang in their youth and have even given us old traditional costumes. Folklorists have supported our efforts, museum staff have advised us, hand weavers have helped us to create everything we present today on floorboards, lawns and stages.
Through the famous state festival Grand Prix of Folklore-International Folklore Dance Festival for the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, they bring international folklore dance groups to our state every two years for a joint cultural highlight.
The current 100 members of the folklore ensemble, who dance, make music and teach, currently include three performance groups. Next Saturday, the children's, youth and adult dance groups will present themselves at the theater and showcase folklore from Mecklenburg and Pomerania. The adult dance group will also show dance pictures from different regions of Germany. Katja Zühlsdorff
