comedy by Georg Büchner
"The
two royal children Leonce and Lena do not know each other, not yet
.
Both are facing a life that others have planned for them. They are both fleeing from adulthood, weariness of life and social expectations. It is their departure into a world that seems to be open to them, but in which they still have to find their place. In search of themselves and an alternative way of life, they set out on a great journey. They meet each other and find in the other what they themselves seem to be missing - unaware that their meeting was planned long ago. Is it fate? Determination or a mean trap? Does man in the end only fulfill what he is destined to do anyway? Do you have to set out in order to really arrive? Do we want to arrive at all or would we rather keep on traveling? Between lightness, humor and comedy of confusion, Georg Büchner raises the great questions of meaning of human existence in his play. Lustfully reeling, anxiously loving, his characters strive between weltschmerz and boredom for a moment of true freedom. House director Alice Buddeberg, who has already brought Woyzeck from the Büchner cosmos to the stage of the E-Werk in Schwerin, is now staging the profound comedy Leonce und Lena for the Großes Haus. A travel story - destination unknown.
