Lecture "Greifswalder Oie":
It is also called "Heligoland of the Baltic Sea". The Slavs called it "Holy Island". In 1291 Duke Bogislav IV donated it to the city of Greifswald - hence the present name. In 1855 the lighthouse was inaugurated. Today the island is a nature reserve and a popular destination for excursions.
