Wool Weaver Matthias Gerling
Start: 4:00 p.m., Meeting point: Tourist info in the HKB
Wool weaver Matthias Gerling (1810-1874)
A wool weaver from Neubrandenburg, coming from Malchow from work, got lost in the thick snow and thus could not find his way home. Thanks to the bells of St. Mary's, which struck loudly, he was able to get his bearings again and found his way home. He then donated some of the money he earned from weaving to the church so that the church bells could ring more often during the dark season. For this reason, one of the five bells was also called the Extra or Weaver Bell.
