Anyone who is interested in Japanese aesthetics cannot avoid the term "Komorebi".

Anyone interested in Japanese aesthetics cannot avoid the term "Komorebi". It refers to light that falls through leaves. It is the special magic of the forest and light. Yes, and it is also about respect for nature, including in Gisela Krohn's work. In Japanese thought, it is actually based even further on a respect for being or, to paraphrase an expression by Albert Schweitzer, a "reverence for being". In this respect, it is no coincidence that the Yokai group exhibition is opening at the same time as this solo exhibition by Gisela Krohn.

I had already noticed Gisela Krohn's work a few years ago and have always followed her artistic developments. Her use of light and color, her exploration of the forest theme, her choice of colors, which is very special. All of this is fascinating. It is a shimmering impression of light that initially makes some viewers think of photography, others might draw comparisons with part of David Hockney's work, but is absolutely independent and is fed by the joy of being and of nature.

Yes, one can and must also talk about the mastery in handling brush and canvas, but first and foremost one must be enchanted by the mastery of capturing "light falling through leaves" on canvas.

Let yourself be enchanted by this painting.

The exhibition can be seen until September 01, 2024
