"MAGNIFICENT G. FR. HÄNDEL & KÖNIGLICHES ENGLAND" in the catholic church St. Lukas Neubrandenburg

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, the magnificent Jehmlich organ will be played in a festive organ concert in the St. Lukas Church in Neubrandenburg (Heidmühlstraße) at 7:30 pm. University organist Dr. Wieland Meinhold from Weimar will take his place at the console. What do the old Brits and Handel have to do with each other? To put it bluntly, the German from Halle an der Saale is their greatest composer! The heavyweight baroque composer not only satisfied England's urge for festive music with his fireworks and water music, his opulent oratorios in St. Paul's Cathedral were reason enough for the Londoners to carry him on a "silver platter". Handel's organ arrangements were paired with original works by old masters such as Tallis, Philips, Greene, Stanley, Bull, Boyce and Purcell. The fantasies, preludes, airs, trumpet tunes and voluntaries always have a measured dignity in the foreground. Handel's Largo, his Overture and Double Fugue in G minor, but also the famous Pifa and Sarabande, and above all the Postlude "Daughter of Zion", are also sure to make an impact on the organ.A kind donation is requested at the exit.
