"Pick, pick, pick - the good ones in the potty, the bad ones in the pot."

Cinderella would really like to go to the ball. She is allowed to - but only once she has picked up all the lentils from the ashes; once Cinderella has cleaned up the mess that her stepmother has made. And so she sorts, picks up what has been thrown away, separates usable raw materials and unusable garbage. The well-known fairy tale is still a standard in Western nurseries today. Its roots go back to the 17th century - and yet it has more to tell us today than ever before.

Together with the Cinderella children's choir and the singers of the opera ensemble, we look at the garbage of our time, trace the cycles of the world and create a positive vision of the future. Based on interviews with experts on raw material cycles, sustainability and transformation, the musical theater Stoff is created. The audience will actively participate during the performance: In playful mini-workshops, we explore our relationship to the status quo, give vent to our emotions on the subject, exchange ideas and search for the building materials of the future! Stoff is a children's play for adults - because for a sustainable future, we don't have a problem of knowledge, we have a problem of implementation!

The concept of "waste" - i.e. raw materials that have no further use and are therefore thrown away - has only been around since the 1950s and is therefore very recent. Within a very short space of time, mankind has turned it into a global problem. And one that is invisible in the western world: We throw away and repress - out of sight out of mind. The path of waste is still linear today: a product is manufactured, used, thrown away and incinerated. But nature doesn't work in a linear way, it doesn't obey this logic. Natural processes are cyclical, where each end corresponds to a new beginning. And while we understand that waste is not waste, but raw material, a story of hope is also told that new, living cycles are constantly emerging from what has been repressed.

STOFF platform

To accompany the STOFF musical theater project, we offer an extensive supporting program in which we delve deeper into the important topic of raw materials and their paths: school workshops, discussion formats and debriefings. The production team also attends sustainability workshops themselves in order to position the project as part of a transformation process within the theater business. Accordingly, the stage design and costumes are supplied from the theater's own resources by reusing the raw materials that are already available and not purchasing new decorations.

The accompanying program is funded by the Horizonte Foundation and the NUE Foundation.
